About the Farm
Background
Located in Troy Township, Geauga County, the farm is owned by the Gardner Family Limited Partnership, with Marilyn and Michael Gardner as Co-General Partners. This 100-acre farm features a 50-acre sugarbush for maple syrup production, 35 acres of tillable hay and crop fields, a historic clubhouse, and two secluded cabins overlooking a 2-acre spring-fed lake. In 2018, the farm produced and bottled its own maple syrup in a new sugarhouse, selling it locally under the Mike's Maple brand name. Since then, nearly 2000 gallons of USDA Grade A maple syrup have been produced.
Practices
The farm's maple syrup is all natural and 100% pure, derived from a mix of sugar maple and red maple trees in the sugarbush. With 1500 taps under vacuum, the sap is boiled in a 5' x 14' wood-fired evaporator with a 5' x 10' steam away sap pre-heater. The farm also cultivates wild watercress and native chanterelle mushrooms, and produces horse hay on 17 acres. An additional 18 acres are leased to a local dairy farmer for growing corn and soybeans. The farm is committed to managing and marketing its natural resources to sustain its operations for future generations.
The Rest
The farm aims to build trusted relationships with customers, chefs, and restaurateurs, providing high-quality, locally grown farm products delivered just-in-time for the freshest food experience. Visitors are welcome by appointment only.
