About the Farm
Background
Located in the rolling hills of upstate South Carolina, Hereford Hills Ranch is the realization of a lifelong dream for its owners. After years of hard work and planning, they have established a haven where they can raise their animals in a healthy and happy environment. Known for their mini Herefords, the ranch offers smaller cuts of meat that are both cost-effective and easier on the land.
Practices
The ranch employs a pasture rotation system to ensure that their beef cattle have access to fresh natural forage year-round. The cattle are grassfed and have access to fresh well water and wooded areas. They follow a natural breeding and birthing system, allowing calves to stay with their mothers until weaning. Similarly, their heritage pork is pasture-raised, with pigs enjoying a diet of nuts and roots, fresh well water, and mud holes for wallowing. No hormones or antibiotics are used, and there are no animal by-products in the pig feed. All meat is processed in a USDA-approved facility, vacuum-sealed, and flash-frozen to maintain freshness.
The Rest
Products from the ranch are available at the Union SC Farmers Market and directly at the ranch. The ranch is also expanding to offer various experiences, inviting visitors to check their website for updates. The hands-on approach of the owners ensures that the animals live stress-free, happy lives, contributing to the quality of the meat.
