About the Farm
Background
Since 1995, the Heifer Ranch CSA has been a cornerstone for fresh produce in central Arkansas. Known for its commitment to organic farming, the ranch has become a community hub, attracting nearly 20,000 visitors annually. The roots of this mission trace back to 1944 when Dan West laid the groundwork for what would become Heifer International, an organization dedicated to ending hunger and poverty through sustainable agriculture.
Practices
The farm employs USDA certified organic practices, focusing on maintaining highly fertile soil to produce high-quality crops. Sustainable farming methods are at the core of their operations, ensuring that the land remains productive and healthy for future generations. This commitment to organic and sustainable agriculture is evident in their annual field days, where CSA shareholders can witness firsthand the meticulous care that goes into growing their food.
The Rest
The Heifer Ranch is open to the public from Monday through Saturday, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with the source of their food. The ranch's broader mission aligns with Heifer International's global efforts to end hunger and poverty by supporting local farmers and fostering resilient economies. This mission extends across 19 countries, impacting communities through livestock, agriculture, and mentorship programs designed to create lasting change.
