About the Farm
Background
Heffron Farms was originally settled in 1921 by Thomas and Cecelia Heffron. Today, it is in its fourth generation of farming the land, which has always consisted of livestock and crops to feed the livestock. In 1983, Heffron Farms ventured into the retail meat business, initially marketing their meat at the City of Grand Rapids farmers' market. This success led to the opening of a market on the farm and subsequently additional stores in the Grand Rapids area. Heffron Farms Markets have since become well known for the quality of their natural products.
Practices
Heffron Farms takes pride in raising products without the use of growth hormones, preservatives, dyes, and antibiotics, ensuring humane treatment of animals. All meats are USDA or state inspected, vacuum packaged, and frozen to maintain freshness for up to a year. The Heffron family emphasizes the importance of being good stewards of their fertile and productive land, and they are actively involved in farmland preservation efforts through the Kent County Purchase of Development Rights Program.
The Rest
Heffron Farms Markets collaborates with other local farmers to provide a variety of naturally raised products. They offer convenient thawing methods for their meats and ship products throughout the United States, with free delivery to the Lansing area. The Heffron family is passionate about farming and aims to share quality products and healthy eating with their customers.
