About the Farm
Background
For 14 years, the farm has specialized in raising Coopworth sheep in West Virginia, chosen for their soft, long, and lustrous fiber. The farm's fleece has gained recognition, placing 1st in the Coopworth division at the 2010 Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Over the years, the farm has expanded its inventory to include a variety of fiber products and meat, with a small part of the flock consisting of Jacobs, known for their beautiful pewter-colored fleece.
Practices
The farm's fleece is professionally processed by Zeilinger's in Michigan, ensuring high-quality roving in both natural and dyed colors. Additionally, the farm uses a mill in Oregon to machine-felt wool for insoles. The focus on quality extends to the meat, with USDA certification for lamb that is lean and mild in flavor. The farm emphasizes the importance of buying locally sourced lamb to avoid the gamey flavor often found in imported meat.
The Rest
The farm offers a wide range of products including raw fleeces, roving, batting, yarn, felted items, and supplies. They also sell homemade jams, jellies, and butters. Classes in needle felting, clay, and ribbed basketry are taught by the owner, providing a creative outlet for visitors. The farm's website features detailed information on products and services, and visitors are encouraged to call or email for samples, prices, and directions.
