About the Farm
Background
Harvest Valley Farms is managed by brothers Art and Larry King, along with Art's son, David King. The farm spans 160 acres and has become a staple in the community for its diverse range of produce. CSA members have the option to pick up their shares at various locations throughout the week, and the farm also participates in local farmers markets such as the Monroeville Lions Farmers Market and the Forest Hills Farmers Market. The farm market, located in Gibsonia, PA, operates from March 21 to Christmas, offering fresh produce daily.
Practices
The farm employs sustainable practices that include the use of beneficial insects, organically certified pesticides, pelleted chicken manure fertilizer, crop rotation, cover cropping, and rye straw mulch. By picking produce daily and managing their farm to market within 24 hours, they ensure extremely fresh produce with outstanding shelf life. The farm's commitment to sustainability is evident in their diverse farming methods and dedication to local employment.
The Rest
Harvest Valley Farms employs local high school students, college students, mothers, fathers, and post-retired individuals, fostering a strong community connection. The farm market and bakery are open seven days a week, providing a wide range of fresh produce and baked goods to the local community.
