About the Farm
Background
The farm's history dates back to the early 1900s when Allen Griffin started a dairy on this land. Pearl and Howard Griffin farmed here until Howard's death in 1992. The dairy sat idle until 2007 when the Griffin Farmstead Goat Dairy was established. The farm is now one of five licensed goat dairies in Connecticut.
Practices
The farm breeds Nigerian Dwarf, Nubian, Saanen, and Alpine goats, with a current count of 30 goats in milk, 15 doelings, and 3 bucks. They milk seasonally to provide a break for both the goats and the farmers, resulting in no liquid milk sales from December to March. Additionally, they operate Clark Farms, growing a variety of plants and vegetables, and Bushy Hill Orchard, offering fruits, vegetables, and homemade cider.
The Rest
The farm is family-owned and operated, involving multiple family members in daily operations. They also run a full bakery, ice cream parlor, and a Farm to Table, Farm to Families breakfast and to-go dinner service. If they do not grow something themselves, they source it from other trusted local growers and producers.
