About the Farm

Background

Originally known for growing gourmet organic garlic, the farm has transitioned from garlic production to on-farm research. The farm is located in the Palouse region of Washington, an area known for its picturesque rolling hills. The farm was established by Jane Fluegel, who has been dedicated to sustainable organic farming and feeding her family from her gardens for over thirty years.

Practices

The farm is committed to sustainable farming practices and organic certification. Half of the farm's acreage is dedicated to natural woods and native plants, while the other half is flat pasture bordering a creek. The current research projects focus on understanding the influence of plant architecture on pollinator species and abundance, as well as the attraction of different cut flowers to pollinators. These projects use time-lapse photography to study pollinator activity.

The Rest

The farm is involved in two WSARE grant-funded research projects and has a passion for helping other organic growers and small farmers. Jane Fluegel, the farm's owner, is known for her expertise in native plant habitat and sustainable farming, as well as her artistic contributions to the farm's product labels and website. Susan Fluegel, PhD, contributes her knowledge in nutritional biochemistry and sustainable agriculture, and is responsible for the farm's research and website development.
