About the Farm

Background

The Gregory family has deep roots in farming, with Clark Gregory growing up alongside his father and grandfathers, learning the trade from a young age. The family farmhouse, believed to have been originally built in the late 1860s, has seen numerous renovations over the years. Clark's agricultural education continued through his involvement in his father's custom high-tensile livestock fence business and his studies at Virginia Tech's College of Agriculture. After purchasing Cheerful Ridge Farm in 2015, Clark and Maggy Gregory have worked to expand their operation, offering high-quality meat to families across Virginia.

Practices

The farm employs controlled, intense rotational grazing to ensure higher-quality livestock and healthier pastures. Clark, a Virginia Certified Nutrient Management Planner, focuses on refining livestock, land, and pasture management techniques. The farm's practices emphasize humane treatment of animals and sustainable land use, with a commitment to providing nutrient-rich pastures and high-quality meat products.

The Rest

Maggy Gregory plays a crucial role in customer relations, marketing, and the sustainable development of the farm's direct retail operation. She is often the first point of contact for new and returning customers, explaining the farm's livestock husbandry process and the benefits of their products. The Gregorys' dedication to their farm is evident in their daily activities, from walking the fence line at sunrise to baling hay in the evening. Their two children, referred to as the 'Little Farmers,' are a central motivation for their work.
