About the Farm
Background
Emily Eder and Maggie Thomas purchased the farm business from its previous owners in Spring 2019. The farm is located on 90 acres of land leased through a generous agricultural easement, with 1.5 acres in vegetable and flower cultivation in 2019. The rest of the land comprises cedar and hardwood forest, wetlands, and rolling green pastures. Over the years, the farm has been known for its vibrant community and CSA program, offering fresh produce and engaging events for its members.
Practices
The farm follows biodynamic and organic farming principles, minimizing the use of fossil fuels and maximizing interaction with the surrounding life. Draft horses are used instead of tractors, and manual labor replaces chemicals. Soil health is prioritized through the use of organic compost, crop rotations, and cover cropping. Synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, and fungicides are not used. The farm also emphasizes the importance of community and relationships, fostering direct connections between people, nature, and agriculture.
The Rest
The farm offers CSA member shares, which include pick-your-own vegetables, herbs, and flowers, as well as a variety of fresh greens, roots, squashes, and melons. Members are invited to farm potlucks, workshops, and events, and can walk around the farm during pick-up times to experience the farming process and spend time with the farm's equine partners, Kate and Sunny. The farm also sells produce to local restaurants and hosts various events and workshops throughout the year.
