Great Day Gardens

Since 2015, Great Day Gardens has been providing families in the Lynchburg area with healthy, biologically raised, and chemical-free produce and baked goods. Owned and operated by husband and wife team Michael Grantz and Arden Jones, the farm has become known for its commitment to ecological growing practices and community engagement through their CSA program and presence at local markets.

The farm's practices are beyond organic, eschewing synthetic sprays or fertilizers in favor of creating living soil within a vibrant farm ecosystem. They use carbon-rich compost, homemade compost, reduced tillage, natural mulches, rain catchment, swales, and perennial hedges to foster animal habitat. These methods not only enhance soil health but also support pollinators and wildlife. In their bakery, they craft a variety of artisan breads and pastries with locally milled flour, nearly all made with sourdough and fermented for at least 24 hours, which aids in digestibility for those with gluten sensitivities. The bread is baked in a custom-built wood-fired oven, adding a unique flavor and texture.

Customers can order goods directly from the website and pick up at several weekly locations, or find them at the Lynchburg Community Market year-round and the Forest Farmers Market starting in May. The farm also offers a CSA from May to October. Seasonal farm bouquets of exuberant shapes and vivid colors are available for various occasions. The farm's philosophy emphasizes rolling with the seasons and living in tune with the environment, fostering ecosystem health by following and exceeding federal organic standards.
