About the Farm
Background
The farm's closed herd was started in 1988, and they began selling grass-fed beef in 1989. Keith Long brings over 30 years of ranching experience and has been practicing Holistic Management for over 20 years. Linda Pechin-Long, with over 10 years in ranching and agriculture, also has extensive experience in direct marketing and the hospitality sector.
Practices
The farm does not use chemical fertilizers, growth hormones, or antibiotics. Cattle are born and raised on native prairie grass, clean water, and sunshine in the Kansas Flint Hills. They are never confined or placed in a feedlot and are never fed grain or concentrates. Mineral supplements, clean water, and high-quality stored forages are provided during winter months. Holistically planned grazing mimics the historical movement of prairie animals, preserving the tallgrass prairie and providing the best life for the cattle.
The Rest
The farm is dedicated to good land stewardship and spreading awareness of regenerative practices. They guarantee that their products come from animals raised without antibiotics or added growth hormones, and their pastures are never treated with chemical fertilizers. The farm also offers consulting services and has received positive feedback from customers for the quality of their meat and customer service.
