About the Farm
Background
Erik and Kate Kraemer operate the farm, having been drawn to issues of social and environmental justice. Erik spent five years working with non-profits in the Appleton, WI area, while Kate also has experience in this field. They have witnessed the challenges people face in accessing good food and believe in the importance of local food production.
Practices
The farm employs Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to reduce risk and preserve water through the use of rain barrels and mulching crops. They avoid GMOs and use plant-based pest deterrents. In the summer, they intensively garden 2-3 acres of produce, while in the winter, they utilize a large greenhouse to grow salad greens, carrots, onions, and other crops.
The Rest
All food grown is distributed within North Eastern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. The farm emphasizes the connection between growing food, the natural world, and the community, viewing food as a focal point for social justice.
