About the Farm
Background
Since April 2014, the University of California Gill Tract Community Farm has produced 70,000 pounds of produce and welcomed approximately 7,500 visitors. The farm is known for its strong community engagement and educational initiatives, including volunteer trainings and internships.
Practices
The farm is entirely organic, emphasizing agro-ecology and food sovereignty. It serves as a model of shared governance and co-stewardship, aiming to restore community resilience and reconnect humans to the sacred web of relationships that sustain culture and ways of life. The farm practices rematriation and reparations, focusing on community-based land stewardship in right relationship with marginalized communities.
The Rest
The farm offers various programs such as herbal classes, community farming, and food sovereignty initiatives. It supports a donation-based community herbal apothecary and collaborates with local, national, and international food sovereignty organizations. Volunteers, interns, researchers, and community service initiatives are welcome, with monthly volunteer trainings available.
