About the Farm
Background
Located in New York’s Hudson Valley, this farm has been raising 100% grassfed sheep since 2002 using intensive rotational grazing. In 2020, the farm transitioned to collaborating with neighboring farms, including Dirty Dog Farm and Hearty Roots Community Farm, to continue raising livestock and producing healthy food.
Practices
The farm employs rotational grazing on diverse, nutritious pastures to protect water quality, biodiversity, and store soil carbon. The sheep, Icelandic crosses, are raised without antibiotics or hormones on organically managed pastures. The farm follows animal welfare guidelines to ensure a happy, healthy flock. Although not USDA certified organic, the farm adheres to organic practices.
The Rest
Lamb is available for sale every fall by the whole or half, with orders starting in late summer. The lamb is cut to order, and assistance is provided for those unfamiliar with the options. Wool comforters from a nearby sheep farm's spring shearing are available at Hearty Roots across the road. All pelts from the last of the original flock are sold out, with more expected in a few years from the new flock.
