About the Farm
Background
For 22 seasons, this 40-acre farm has been dedicated to growing over 40 different varieties of vegetables and herbs. Known for their CSA program, they provide members with 18 weeks of fresh produce, including lettuce, cucumbers, melons, tomatoes, and sweet corn. They also sell at the West Bend Farmer's Market and through several wholesale accounts.
Practices
The farm adheres to USDA certified organic standards, focusing on building up soil and natural ecosystems to grow healthy, great-tasting vegetables. They follow the federal guidelines of the Food Safety Modernization Act, implementing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP). Measures include regular cleaning of hard surfaces, hand washing, and the use of hydrogen peroxide solutions to kill germs. Employees wear nitrile gloves during harvesting, and sick employees are sent home to prevent contamination.
The Rest
The farm offers four types of CSA boxes to cater to different needs, including a Worker Share option for those willing to trade labor for produce. Members receive a weekly newsletter along with their box. The farm's produce is also available at several confirmed pickup sites and through home delivery services.
