About the Farm
Background
Fresh Pasture Farms opened in April 2010, but its roots trace back to nearly 40 years of farming experience by Norm and Sandy Sutter. Initially grain farmers, they transitioned to Management Intensive Grazing in the early 1990s after learning about it at a cattle field day. Over the years, they adapted their practices, focusing on raising stocker cattle and later expanding into grass-fed beef due to growing interest from friends and community members. By 2009, their son Wade and his wife Jaime joined the farm, furthering their commitment to organic and chemical-free farming.
Practices
The farm employs Management Intensive Grazing, ensuring animals are moved regularly to fresh pastures, providing them with a new 'salad bar' every day. They use a custom non-GMO feed ration to balance the animals' nutritional needs. The land and livestock are maintained without chemicals, and fresh water is made available to all paddocks. The farm also emphasizes the nutritional benefits of animals raised on grass, avoiding hormones and antibiotics.
The Rest
The on-farm store is open to visitors on Saturdays from 9am-3pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-5:30pm. Fresh Pasture Farms maintains an active online presence through their website and social media platforms, offering a newsletter for updates. The farm also features a garden planted with mostly organic seeds and plants, avoiding commercial fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides.
