About the Farm
Background
Located in the woods and hills of Central Minnesota, this family-owned business has been growing and distributing edible specialty mushrooms since 1985. Known for their fresh Oyster and Shiitake mushrooms, they also offer a variety of other cultivated and wild-harvested mushrooms. The business has grown to serve Midwest jobbers and wholesale grocers, while also offering limited direct farm sales and custom-packed gift baskets.
Practices
The farm employs meticulous cultivation practices to grow high-quality mushrooms, including heat-pasteurization of their straw-based mushroom-growing compost to ensure it is free of weed seeds. Kevin Doyle, a Minnesota-certified Wild Mushroom Expert, oversees the handling of wild-harvested mushrooms, ensuring they meet stringent safety standards. The farm's commitment to quality is evident in their year-round availability of fresh mushrooms and their careful handling and packaging processes.
The Rest
The farm offers a virtual tour on their website, as no physical tours are available. They sell spent mushroom-growing compost to the public for use as garden mulch, available year-round. Additionally, they provide a range of mushroom products, including fresh, dried, and frozen options, as well as mushroom-themed merchandise and gift cards. Office hours for inquiries are Monday to Friday, 8am-3pm.
