About the Farm
Background
Foppema’s Farm, a 75-acre fruit and vegetable farm located in Northbridge, Massachusetts, has been family-owned and operated by the Ken Foppema family. Ken, Lisa, and their four sons, along with a dedicated staff, have been growing and selling produce from their farm since the establishment of their post and beam farmstand in 1998. The farmstand is open from June through October, offering a diverse range of fruits and vegetables to the local community.
Practices
The farm emphasizes the importance of locally grown produce, cultivating a variety of fruits such as apples, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, and currants, as well as vegetables including sweet corn, tomatoes, squash, beans, lettuce, cucumbers, peppers, onions, eggplant, rhubarb, cabbage, and broccoli. They continually experiment with new crops like kohlrabi, roly poly zucchini, Japanese eggplant, and celeriac. Recently, they have planted peach and nectarine trees along with new apple varieties.
The Rest
Foppema’s Farm participates in two farmer’s markets: Copley Square in Boston on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the market on the Natick Common on Saturday mornings. They accept various forms of payment including cash, credit/debit cards, and SNAP, and are participants in the Healthy Incentive Program (HIP). The farm also offers fresh pressed cider in the fall and encourages customers to explore their recipe section for ideas on using their produce.
