About the Farm
Background
Flying T Ranch was established in 1972 by the Topham family and has been family-owned and operated for three generations. In 1982, Salers cattle were introduced to the ranch, and the herd was closed in 1986 to prevent the introduction of outside cattle. The ranch has become one of the largest and longest-established Salers breeders in the United States, known for its strong selection for calving ease, good disposition, maternal characteristics, and performance traits.
Practices
Flying T Ranch takes pride in the humane treatment of their livestock, avoiding the use of electric cattle prods and handling cattle calmly and quietly. The cattle are never fed antibiotics or hormones and are not commingled with other cattle to reduce the risk of disease. They are free-ranging, summering on lush grass meadows and wintering on grass hay, without any grain in their diet. The Salers breed, known for its minimal external fat due to an impressive winter hair coat, thrives under these natural range conditions.
The Rest
Flying T Ranch offers a variety of Salers cattle for sale, including polled, black or red bulls, bred cows, and heifers. They also provide semen from foundation herd sires and embryos from top donor cows. The ranch has a state meatseller's license, allowing them to sell USDA-inspected Salers beef directly to the public in various quantities. Visitors are welcome to stop by and see the cattle that have garnered attention from progressive ranchers worldwide.
