About the Farm

Background

Flora Fauna Farm began on a two-acre property in La Mesa, NM, but water scarcity led to a move north to Albuquerque. Initially focusing on high-density vegetable farming, the farm transitioned to a nursery specializing in trees and shrubs after the birth of the owners' second child. The farm now operates on 2.1 acres, integrating a mix of nursery plants, ducks, and orchards.

Practices

The farm employs rotational grazing for ducks and geese on an acre and a half of pasture and pond, promoting soil health and biodiversity. High-density vegetable farming was initially practiced but shifted towards integrating trees and shrubs into the system. The nursery focuses on resilient and reliable fruit trees, particularly grafted Jujube trees, and a diverse range of native and underrepresented plants suitable for the New Mexico climate.

The Rest

The farm also offers a small guest house through Airbnb, providing guests with fresh eggs and produce. Seasonal sales of vegetables, fruit, and duck eggs are available, and the nursery updates its inventory weekly. Local delivery or pickup of plants is available by appointment.
