About the Farm
Background
The CSA began in 2002 as a project headed by Northern Arizona University students with the help of professors and administrators. Initially, a Phoenix-area farmer delivered shares of produce to members weekly. By 2009, the market had moved into a small space on Cottage Avenue, which remains its home. Over the years, dedicated volunteers, members, and customers have shaped the CSA into its current form.
Practices
The CSA partners with various Arizona farms, including Whipstone, Blue Sky, and Crooked Sky Farms, to deliver seasonal produce to the community. Members pay for each season's produce in advance, sharing both the risks and benefits of seasonal farming. This model fosters a direct connection between consumers and local farmers, emphasizing the importance of knowing where food comes from and supporting ethical, local agriculture.
The Rest
The CSA operates with a strong community focus, welcoming SNAP/EBT for in-store and online orders, and participates in the Double Up Food Bucks program. They offer flexible shopping options, including in-store purchases, a la carte online orders, and weekly subscriptions. The CSA also emphasizes the importance of supporting local farmers as a means to foster a sustainable and harmonious world, celebrating the interconnectedness of agriculture, community, and the environment.
