About the Farm
Background
First Fruits began in 2014 as a ministry of Blythewood Presbyterian Church, inspired by Proverbs 3:9. Initially, the farm set aside two acres of church property to serve neighbors and display God's beauty. Volunteers helped provide quality produce to families involved with Round Top Food Pantry. In 2017, the farm expanded by offering a CSA program for 20 families each season. In 2023, the farm shifted from a CSA model to providing raised beds for rent to the local community.
Practices
The farm focuses on growing organically-grown crops, free of pesticides. Community members are encouraged to participate in planting, weeding, and harvesting. Raised beds are available with water access and optional irrigation setup, promoting hands-on learning and sustainable gardening practices.
The Rest
First Fruits offers resources such as articles, classes, and hands-on help for gardeners. The farm also sells produce at the weekly Blythewood Farmers Market and aims to be a center for community building, bringing together people from various walks of life to enjoy gardening and fresh produce.
