About the Farm
Background
Located on a 230-acre family-owned farm in Chesterfield, NJ, Fernbrook Farms has a rich history that includes a wholesale tree nursery, a historic bed and breakfast, and an education center. The farm has been a cornerstone for the community, providing a place for friends and families to gather, learn, and create stories. The oldest building on the farm, The Inn, dates back to 1760 and has been a center of warmth and hospitality for many years. Since 2007, Fernbrook Farms has trained over 25 apprentices, many of whom now manage their own operations.
Practices
Fernbrook Farms adheres to organically approved standards, though they are not USDA certified organic. They offer a wide variety of produce, from common vegetables like lettuce, peas, and tomatoes to less well-known but delicious options like Chinese cabbage, heirloom tomatoes, fennel, and delicata squash. The farm emphasizes the importance of reconnecting people with healthy, fresh food and operates a farm shop that sells local and organic products, including coffee, pasture-raised eggs, organic milk and cheese, and homemade potpies and baked goods.
The Rest
The farm's CSA distribution season runs from late May to Thanksgiving, offering both full-season and 10-week share options. The farm shop is open three days a week, and the u-pick fields are open six days a week. Fernbrook Farms is also dedicated to education, providing hands-on experiences for young people through various programs and camps. The farm's mission includes training the next generation of sustainable farmers and making healthy food accessible to all.
