About the Farm

Background

The farm, located just west of Ottawa, ON, has been operated by Randi Townsend and Jonathan Smiley since 2016. Their journey began in 2013 at Just Food farm in Blackburn Hamlet, Ottawa, and continued with valuable experiences at Cedar Down Farm in Grey County, Southwestern Ontario. In 2021, they moved to their 'Forever farm' in Low, Quebec.

Practices

The farm cultivates 9 out of its 180 acres, with half of the cultivated land always in cover crops and green manures. They are committed to improving soil health, water quality, and biodiversity, maintaining organic certification to ensure their practices benefit both human health and the environment.

The Rest

The farm offers summer and winter CSA shares, with market-style pick-ups allowing customers to curate their baskets. They also sell at the Wakefield market and provide limited wholesale accounts. Jon's background in political science and Randi's experience with environmental activism and organic farming contribute to their holistic approach to sustainable agriculture.
