About the Farm
Background
Since the 1960s, Marcia Lincoln kept and bred captive reptiles, primarily snakes. When that hobby faded and raising poultry became the new obsession, she named her hobby farm 'Feathered Reptiles Farm'. Starting with a few hatchery stock chickens for eggs, she soon realized the poor conditions of factory-farmed animals and decided to raise her own. In 2008, she ordered chicks and poults from a hatchery, which led to an ongoing journey of pen building and learning. Initially breeding heritage turkeys before chickens, she eventually delved into the world of Standard Bred poultry and showing poultry.
Practices
All birds are raised on organic, GMO-free feeds, though the farm is not certified organic. The slower growth rate of the birds compared to commercially grown ones results in richer, more flavorful meat. The farm emphasizes the importance of quality feed, believing that 'you are what you eat' applies to both humans and birds. This approach ensures that the meat and eggs are healthy, and the offspring are vigorous and ready to grow well in other flocks.
The Rest
The farm sells show quality and backyard flock birds, processed chickens and turkeys, soy-free eggs, and poultry feet for broth. Located in the scenic Sonoran Desert near Tucson, Arizona, the farm breeds poultry to the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection. All photographs on the website are of the farm's own birds.
