About the Farm
Background
Farmer Al's Market & Greenhouses has its roots in 1924 when Farmer Al, along with his parents and siblings, started growing vegetables and raising dairy cows in Jamesburg, NJ. After the death of his father in the 1950s, Farmer Al continued the tradition, expanding into flower plants. The family opened a market in 1976, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, and later expanded their greenhouse operations. Farmer Al passed away in 2001, but his family has continued to uphold his legacy of personal service and quality plants.
Practices
The farm is committed to providing high-quality produce and plants. They grow a variety of vegetables and operate greenhouses that produce bedding plants, hanging baskets, and patio pots. The farm emphasizes personal service and quality, ensuring that their products meet high standards. They also engage in fundraising plant sales for schools, scouts, churches, and other organizations.
The Rest
The farm specializes in wholesale and retail bedding plants, offering materials for landscaping projects and professional landscape contractors. They provide Jersey Fresh seasonal produce, including sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, string beans, broccoli, collard and mustard greens, turnips, and kale. The farm is known for its hardy fall mums and has been a staple in the community for over 20 years.
