About the Farm
Background
Nancy's journey into weaving began in 1968 with a class in Norway, inspired by her aunt Marie Nodland, an accomplished weaver. Over the years, Nancy has become a well-known figure in the Midwest weaving community, sharing her skills and passion through classes and presentations. Her work has been featured by Nordic Folk Life at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Practices
The farm maintains a flock of Shetland, Icelandic, and Gotland sheep, which are not raised for sale but for their wool. The sheep, including ewes and wethers, graze on green pastures and grow wool throughout their lives. The farm emphasizes the use of both new and antique equipment, with Nancy offering consultations on the usefulness of cherished family looms and wheels.
The Rest
Nancy offers a variety of classes in traditional Scandinavian weaving techniques, spinning, and felting, both at the farm's studio and other locations. She also provides slide presentations of her textile tours to Norway. The farm features a selection of older and antique wheels and looms for sale.
