About the Farm
Background
Located in the agricultural community of Canon City, Colorado, Ellen’s Flowers was started in 2019 by Ellen, who has a background in conservation biology and pollination biology. The farm provides organically grown flowers directly to the greater Pikes Peak region. Ellen’s Flowers is known for its commitment to organic practices and local agriculture, aiming to close the gap between farm and consumer.
Practices
Ellen’s Flowers employs organic farming methods, avoiding synthetic chemicals to protect and create natural habitats, enhance ecosystem functions, and give back to the land. The farm's philosophy emphasizes the interconnectedness of land management, climate change, community, and flowers. This approach ensures that the flowers are chemical-free, fresh, and local, reducing the carbon footprint associated with imported flowers.
The Rest
The team at Ellen’s Flowers includes Ellen, the lead designer and farmer; Matt, head of infrastructure, innovation, and sales; Emily, the farm crew lead and assistant floral designer; Ann, a designer and farmer; and Sam, who works on the farm between her shifts as a labor and delivery nurse. The farm cat, Waffles, has been a part of the farm family since 2022. The farm offers bouquet subscriptions, wedding and event flowers, and sells at local markets.
