About the Farm
Background
The farm's journey with elderberries began in 1988 when the current owners purchased the land, which was previously used for sheep farming. Initially, elderberries were seen as a nuisance, but in 2013, the owners decided to focus on farming elderberries and elderflowers commercially. They planted fields of York and Nova elderberry cuttings, leading to the establishment of orchards that produce high-quality elderberry and elderflower products.
Practices
The farm is committed to organic practices, including the use of organic fertilizers and organic methods of pest control. They never use herbicides and prioritize sustainable, healthy fruit production and living soil care. Despite using organic methods, they have chosen not to seek official organic certification to focus resources on maintaining nutrient-dense fruit.
The Rest
The farm offers both online sales with free shipping and direct sales at the farm. Products include traditional and sugar-free elderberry syrup, dried elderberries and elderflowers, elderberry powder, tincture, and jelly. The farm is located in the Taconic Mountains, where Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York meet. Visitors can enjoy the historic and culturally rich area surrounding the farm. Elderberry Springs Farm products are available at various retail stores and local events in the Tri-State area.
