About the Farm
Background
Located in the northern tip of the scenic Loess Hills in Iowa/South Dakota, Eden Valley Apple Orchard and Farm spans 29 acres and was purchased in 2005. The farm is known for its 2200 apple trees representing 22 different varieties and over 3500 aronia berry bushes. The farm has embraced the Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) model, offering fresh, farm-to-table produce to its members. Over the years, the farm has become a cherished part of the community, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to local families.
Practices
The farm employs natural growing methods for its apple trees and aronia berry bushes. The greenhouse is utilized for starting seeds, including tomatoes, cucumbers, brussel sprouts, squash, eggplant, pumpkins, and watermelons. The farm's practices emphasize the importance of fresh, locally grown produce, and they are committed to providing high-quality fruits and vegetables to their CSA members.
The Rest
The farm's CSA meetings have been increasingly successful, attracting more members who appreciate the benefits of fresh, farm-to-table produce. The farm also grows strawberries, plums, cherries, rhubarb, asparagus, and various other vegetables. Despite the seasonal stillness, the farm remains active in planning and preparing for the next growing season. The farm's sense of community and dedication to natural growing methods make it a beloved local institution.
