About the Market
Background
For over a decade, this organic garden center has been the cornerstone of the DFW area's local food movement, proudly hosting the first and only all-organic farmers' market in the region. Despite a recent hiatus in market days due to challenges with farmer availability and public participation, the center remains committed to its CSA program, now entering its ninth year. The center has also embarked on an Agri-hood Development Plan, promising exciting future developments for the community.
Practices
The garden center and its affiliated farmers and ranchers adhere to organic practices, often exceeding USDA certification standards. They focus on naturally grown produce, grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, and free-range chicken eggs. The center itself offers a variety of certified organic vegetable seeds, plant starts, and organic gardening supplies. Educational opportunities in organic gardening are also provided, emphasizing responsible and healthful farming methods.
The Rest
Market days are held on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays from April to the first Saturday in December, featuring local farmers and ranchers who sell their organic products. The center accepts Lone Star Cards and offers preordering options. Additionally, the garden shop is open during market hours, providing a range of organic gardening products and classes.
