About the Farm

Background

Eco Urban Gardens has been transforming empty lots into edible gardens and lawns into native California-friendly landscapes. Since 2016, they have installed 117 gardens, focusing on combating food insecurity through urban agriculture and regenerative living. Their mission is to create healthy and sustainable communities by teaching people how to grow food and care for the environment.

Practices

Eco Urban Gardens employs principles of permaculture and agroecology to cultivate gardens and green spaces. They focus on regenerative agriculture practices, including water harvesting and irrigation conversion, to conserve water and improve yields. Their thoughtfully designed landscapes use drought-tolerant California native plants to build soil, attract pollinators, clean the air, and transform urban habitats into thriving ecosystems.

The Rest

The organization runs various programs such as Farm to School, which provides environmental education and school garden programs, and Farm to Table Market, which includes a CSA program and farmer’s markets. They also offer customized design and landscape projects for watershed health. Their efforts are supported by a dedicated team, including an executive director, farm program manager, farm teacher assistant, and design-build installation liaison.
