About the Farm
Background
Founded with the mission to increase local food capacity in Muskoka, this cooperative of small-scale farmers has been dedicated to providing the community with fresh, organic produce. By working together, they ensure fair prices for both farmers and consumers while fostering a closer connection between the people and their food sources.
Practices
The farmers focus on building soil fertility using cover crops, compost, and best management practices. They avoid the use of pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, and genetically modified seeds, ensuring that all produce is grown organically. This commitment to organic farming not only supports the health of the land but also produces incredibly tasty and nutritious food.
The Rest
Members support the farmers by paying upfront for 6-8 weeks of seasonal vegetables, sharing in the bounty of the farms. The cooperative offers a swap box for some choice in weekly boxes and encourages members to share their farm experience with friends or relatives if they are away. Weekly newsletters help members get to know their farmers and celebrate eating with the seasons.
