About the Farm
Background
The Eastern Plains Natural Food Cooperative began as a collaboration of private individuals and local family enterprises dedicated to pasture-based, non-intensive, and chemical-free farming. Over time, it has grown into a small family farm operation that markets, sells, and distributes its products directly to consumers through a cooperative business model. This model includes a membership program that offers benefits to both providers and consumers, fostering a closer connection between the farm and its customers.
Practices
The cooperative employs pasture-based, non-intensive farming methods, ensuring that all products are naturally and organically raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, growth hormones, or chemical additives. The farm's philosophy emphasizes humane treatment of animals, environmental sensitivity, and the importance of agricultural genetic diversity. Beekeeping is also a significant part of their operation, utilizing Langstroth, Topbar, and Warre hive systems to produce pure honey.
The Rest
The cooperative offers a variety of farm products, including eggs, vegetables, honey, and various frozen meats, all USDA certified. Inventory is seasonal and varies throughout the year. The cooperative also engages in activities beyond farming, such as stone work and web design. They maintain an online store for easy consumer access and provide a detailed vegetable production schedule. The cooperative encourages community involvement and support through events and donations.
