About the Farm
Background
Located on 4.9 acres within Whittier Narrows recreational area near South El Monte, Earthworks Farm is operated by the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps (SGVCC). The farm's mission is to offer healthy food, environmental education, and farm-related recreation to the local community. It serves as a training ground for local, at-risk youth participating in SGVCC programs and reaches out to local schools for on-site education and field trip opportunities.
Practices
Earthworks Farm models small-scale organic farming in an urban setting, featuring both hand-worked beds and larger machine-tilled fields. The farm grows a diverse array of fresh vegetables, fruits, grains, herbs, and flowers, including traditional Mexican crops, plants used in Asian cuisine, and unique varieties like Purple Peacock Broccoli and Atomic Red Carrots.
The Rest
Produce from the farm is sold at various Farmers Markets, through a CSA program, and on-site at the Farm every Saturday at the Produce Stand.
