About the Farm

Background

Eagle Bend began as a dream for a rural life, evolving from a small horse boarding business to the first alpaca farm in northern Kentucky. The farm's journey started with a suggestion from a county extension agent, leading to extensive research and visits to alpaca farms. Over the years, the farm has grown its herd and knowledge base, focusing on breeding huacaya alpacas with top genetics. The addition of Cormo sheep has further enhanced their fiber production, making Eagle Bend a notable name in the state's fiber farming community.

Practices

The farm emphasizes careful breeding of huacaya alpacas, incorporating genetics from top herdsires to achieve fine, lustrous fleece and proper conformation. They strive for hybrid vigor by blending genetics from Bolivian, Chilean, and Peruvian lines. The farm also maintains a strong flock of Cormo sheep to complement their alpaca fiber. Eagle Bend's practices include a commitment to producing high-quality fiber and educating the public about the qualities of alpaca fleece through their onsite fiber workshop.

The Rest

Eagle Bend offers educational opportunities for fiber enthusiasts, including classes in knitting, crocheting, hand spinning, and weaving. The on-site Yarn & Fiber Shoppe sells luxurious finished goods and yarns made from their alpaca and sheep herds. The farm is open for tours by appointment and hosts scheduled events throughout the year. Visitors can experience the country life and learn about fiber production firsthand, enhancing their knowledge of farming and the lifestyle it offers.
