About the Farm
Background
Down the Road Farm was established in 2013 by first-generation farmers Lauren and Zack. Located in the wooded, rolling hills of New Lexington, the farm has been spreading joy through beautiful, high-quality, locally grown blooms and bouquets for a decade. The name reflects their journey as beginning farmers, their commitment to local community, and their dedication to sustainable practices.
Practices
The farm is committed to responsible land stewardship, employing soil-building practices to promote organic matter and prevent erosion. Integrated pest management is utilized to support pollinator health, and ground cover is used to decrease weed pressure without relying on herbicides or mechanical cultivation. They avoid hazardous synthetic chemicals, opting instead for cover crops, crop rotations, mulch, compost, and other natural methods to manage weeds and pests and improve soil fertility.
The Rest
Down the Road Farm offers flowers seasonally through a bouquet subscription, at the Lancaster Farmers Market, local community marketplaces, and their online store. They also provide DIY flower buckets and custom event design services. The farm emphasizes the importance of local flowers, highlighting that their blooms are harvested fresh, usually within 48 hours of delivery, ensuring the longest vase life. They accept various payment options at the farmers market, including credit, debit, SNAP EBT, and farmers market nutrition program coupons.
