About the Farm
Background
Located in West Greenwich, RI, the farm specializes in Welsh Harlequin ducks, a breed developed in Wales in 1949 and introduced to the United States in 1968. Accepted into the American Poultry Association in 2001, these ducks are known for their excellent egg production, calm demeanor, and foraging abilities. The farm began with a mission to provide wholesome, naturally raised poultry to local consumers and businesses.
Practices
The farm's ducks and chickens are given GMO-free organic feed and are free to roam on a three-acre farm. They forage in the pasture and a natural spring stream, eating bugs, worms, flowers, and grass, supplemented with layer pellets. The birds are housed in a duck house/chicken coop with a run but spend their days roaming freely. The farm emphasizes natural, free-range practices to ensure the health and well-being of their poultry.
The Rest
The farm currently sells eggs by appointment and offers limited delivery. They have about 35 hens, with a flock that is continually growing to meet demand. Welsh Harlequin ducks are favored for their adaptability, egg production, and lean meat. Duck eggs are larger and have harder shells compared to chicken eggs, which helps them stay fresher longer.
