About the Farm
Background
The Doss family began their journey in Portland, Oregon, inspired by the locavore movement and the slow, handmade food culture of the area. With a heritage rooted in farming, they moved to the Willamette Valley to pasture some of the world's tastiest pork. As the first producers of pure bred Mangalitsa pork in Oregon, they aimed to preserve this breed by offering their products to local restaurants and direct to consumers.
Practices
The farm raises pastured pure heritage Mangalitsa pigs, which thrive outdoors on a varied diet of whole grains, locally grown produce, and nuts, avoiding corn and soy. The pigs do not grow fast and do not do well in confinement. Their poultry, including chickens and ducks, roam freely, foraging for grubs and scratching in the dirt, which allows them to grow at a natural pace.
The Rest
Their products are not available in local supermarkets but can be found in fine restaurants or purchased directly from the farm through custom processors. The farm guarantees the quality of their food, encouraging customers to reserve their chicken or pork.
