About the Farm
Background
Thomas Dodson, a third-generation farmer, has been cultivating sweet potatoes, wheat, and soybeans on 300 acres of land in Forrest City, Arkansas. In the last four years, Thomas and his wife Bonnie have expanded their operations to include boutique vegetable growing. Their produce is available at the Memphis Farmers' Market and the Farmers' Market at the Memphis Botanic Gardens.
Practices
The Dodsons emphasize diversity in their vegetable cultivation, growing a wide range of crops including collards, kale, green peas, lettuce, spinach, onions, broccoli, and cauliflower in the spring, and tomatoes, peppers, okra, and peas in the summer. They also experiment with new varieties, such as the unreleased ebony and Holstein peas. Their farming practices reflect a commitment to variety and innovation.
The Rest
Dodson Farms also offers a selection of jams and handmade goods at various local markets. Their produce and products can be found at seasonal events like the Memphis Farmers Market Holiday Market and the Memphis Arts Collective Made in Memphis Holiday Show. Additionally, they share recipes featuring their produce, such as sweet potato hummus and kale lasagna, on their website.
