About the Farm
Background
Established in Gibsonia, PA, this farm has been family-owned for three generations. Known for its fresh, locally grown produce, the farm has become a staple at several Pittsburgh area Farmers' Markets. The farm market is open from June to October, offering a variety of fruits and vegetables directly to consumers.
Practices
The farm utilizes seven greenhouse structures, or high tunnels, to extend the growing season, ensuring a steady supply of produce. A small orchard and blueberry bushes complement the vegetable production. The farm also raises cage-free Rhode Island Red chickens, which roam in large open-air buildings and are protected from predators. Their diet is supplemented with cracked corn.
The Rest
The farm's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is a key part of its business, offering weekly and biweekly shares of produce to members. The CSA includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and members can also add an egg share. Additionally, 'Jane’s Specials' allows CSA members to order extra produce and specialty items for delivery to their pick-up site. Shares not picked up are donated to local food banks and charities. The farm communicates primarily via email and adheres to CDC and Department of Agriculture guidelines for CSA pickup procedures.
