About the Farm
Background
The Denny family has been farming in rural Southern Indiana for more than 170 years. John Denny, a fifth-generation farmer, transitioned from dairy to beef cattle in the early 1990s and has been raising grass-fed/finished beef for over 20 years. The farm is located just outside Pekin, Indiana, and spans 80 owned acres with an additional 140 rented acres. The family is deeply rooted in their community and committed to honoring God in all they do.
Practices
The farm employs a rotational grazing system during the summer, harvesting a mix of grasses and legumes as haylage for winter feeding. They avoid GMO seeds and chemical sprays, and their cattle are never given growth hormones or routine antibiotics. Instead, they focus on animal husbandry and genetics to maintain cattle health. If an animal requires antibiotics, it is removed from the grass-fed program. The farm is also improving water quality by installing automatic and gravity flow waterers and fencing cows out of ponds.
The Rest
The farm offers beef year-round, available by the quarter, half of a half, or side, and their meats are dry-aged for enhanced flavor and tenderness. John Denny, who has lived on the farm his entire life, is also the pastor at South Liberty Church in Palmyra, Indiana. The Denny family, including John’s wife Christina, their two daughters, and seven granddaughters, all contribute to the farm operations.
