About the Farm
Background
Set in the beautiful rolling hills of Durham, CT, this farm began as a family 4-H project and hobby 37 years ago. Farming has long been a way of life for the Naples family of Durham. In 2004, the farm expanded into a full-time business, leasing land and a barn from the town of Durham. By 2005, they had built a new barn, installed a milking system, and welcomed cows to graze the pastures. Initially, all milk was shipped to a large-scale processing plant, but by December 2005, they began bottling their own milk and selling it directly from the farm. Today, all milk produced is either bottled on-site or made into yogurt, chocolate milk, mocha coffee milk, or soft cheese in their state-certified processing room.
Practices
The farm harvests its own hay and allows cows to graze the pastures during the warm months. The focus is on producing high-quality, nutritious milk from registered Jersey cows, which is known for being easier to digest. The farm emphasizes local production and direct sales from their farmstand.
The Rest
An annual pumpkin festival is held on the Sunday after Columbus Day. The farm offers a variety of products including strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, asparagus, greenhouse tomatoes, fresh cut flowers, sweet corn, pumpkins, and winter squash. Visitors are encouraged to check the website for updated hours and product availability.
