About the Farm
Background
The story began with John Armstrong's lifelong dream of being a farmer, which materialized a few years ago when they acquired a beautiful property near Hardy, Arkansas. Over time, the dream expanded to include raising and processing poultry, as well as beef and pork on pasture. The farm is a family endeavor, with children and grandchildren contributing to the work.
Practices
Following Joel Salatin's methods of integrated farming, the farm employs a rotational grazing system for all its animals. Beef cattle are grass-finished and supplemented only with natural minerals and salt. Pigs are pastured and fed non-GMO corn, grass, acorns, and other natural foods. Red Broiler chickens and turkeys are moved to fresh grass daily and fed non-GMO grains. No hormones or steroids are used, and antibiotics are administered only when necessary. The pastures are free of chemical fertilizers, relying on the rotational grazing system to maintain lush growth. A well provides fresh water for the animals.
The Rest
The farm offers a variety of meat products including beef in individual cuts or by halves or quarters, pork in cuts or halves, whole chickens, chicken parts, and whole turkeys. Eggs are also available. Their products can be purchased locally at the farm, the Spring River Health Connection in Ash Flat, and the ASU Farmers’ Market in Jonesboro. They also meet buyers in Jonesboro during the winter to ensure year-round availability. The farm emphasizes the superior taste, health benefits, and food safety of their products compared to industrial agriculture. They highlight the importance of supporting small family farms for community and environmental benefits, and stress the humane treatment of animals on their farm.
