About the Farm

Background

Founded in 1937 by W.H. Deardorff in Los Angeles, the farm began as a unified sales and marketing company consolidating crops from various growers. The company moved operations to Orange and Ventura Counties in the 1950s and 1960s due to urbanization. The third generation expanded the business, integrating operations from growing to sales. The fourth generation began growing certified organic crops in 2005 and rebranded to Deardorff Family Farms in 2006. Today, the farm operates from a 110,000 square foot LEED Certified facility in Oxnard, CA.

Practices

Deardorff Family Farms employs both conventional and organic farming methods, emphasizing environmental stewardship, social accountability, and community health. The farm integrates growing, cooling, processing, and shipping operations to ensure food safety from seed to finished product. They adhere to the Global Food Safety Initiative standards and the California Leafy Greens Marketing Agreement, ensuring stringent food safety practices. The farm's philosophy prioritizes food safety, with continuous monitoring and improvement of their programs.

The Rest

The farm is committed to treating all stakeholders with fairness and honesty, selling the highest quality products, and creating long-term, value-driven relationships. They promote healthy people and communities by providing a safe and rewarding work environment and supporting local communities. The farm also focuses on protecting natural resources to ensure clean air, land, and water for future generations. They distribute their produce wholesale, retail, and through food service channels throughout the U.S. and Canada.
