About the Farm
Background
The farm was purchased in the fall of 2002, and the following year was spent renovating the run-down 1916 farmhouse. The fields had been fallow for over 30 years, and since then, efforts have been made to create an ecologically sound and productive working farm. Known for high quality produce and friendly, dependable customer service, the farm has been recognized as Ecotrust's 2013 Local Food Hero for outstanding contributions to the local food movement.
Practices
The farm emphasizes gentle and reverent stewardship of the land, employing practices such as crop rotations, drip irrigation, cover crops, and limited natural amendments. Ample habitat is provided for beneficial insects, bugs, and birds. The farm has never used genetically engineered seeds, toxic pesticides, or synthetic, oil-based fertilizers. Most of the vegetables, herbs, and fruit grown are heirloom or open-pollinated, chosen for their flavor, nutrition, genetic diversity, and beauty.
The Rest
Located on 10 beautiful acres above the Sandy River, adjacent to Dabney State Park, the farm is 18 miles east of Portland in an area known as Springdale, or Cabbage Hill to the locals. The farm includes a few acres of woods, abundant blackberries, and refuge for songbirds and wildlife. It offers educational tours and hosts farm dinners, and maintains a kid-friendly environment.
