Cowls Sawmill & Land Company

Since 1741, Cowls has been sustainably managing timberland and contributing to the development of the Pioneer Valley from its Home Farm in North Amherst, MA. Initially settling in Hadley, MA and then moving to Amherst, the business has a long history of supplying the lumber and timbers that built the region's first homes. Today, it is recognized as Massachusetts’ largest private landowner.

The farm engages in sustainable timberland management, ensuring the responsible use and conservation of forest resources. This approach not only supports the local ecosystem but also provides a steady supply of lumber for various uses.

In addition to timber, the farm produces onions, tobacco, and dairy products, showcasing a diverse range of agricultural activities.
