About the Farm
Background
Chip and his family moved to the land in 2013 and have been transforming it ever since. Initially, they reclaimed croplands from cottonwoods and opened up natural springs. They began by tilling fields, running cattle, and growing wheat. Over time, they adopted regenerative agriculture practices inspired by Gabe Brown's 'Dirt to Soil'.
Practices
The ranch employs no-till drilling and cover crops to enhance soil health. Extensive water lines and high-tensile fencing facilitate frequent rotational grazing, which keeps animals healthy and reduces the need for routine antibiotics. This method also benefits the pastures. The cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs are constantly moved to fresh grazing areas, guided by Border Collies and protected by Anatolian Shepherd livestock guardian dogs.
The Rest
The ranch also raises ABCA Border Collies and Anatolian Shepherd livestock guardian dogs. The interconnected system of animal movement and land management exemplifies a commitment to regenerative agriculture.
