About the Farm

Background

Established in 1960, Colby Farm began with first-generation farmer William Colby. After his passing in late 2020, his son J.R. Colby and partner Elizabeth Knight took over the operations. The farm spans 200 acres of hay and vegetables in the Newbury area, supplying fresh produce to their farm store and quality feed to horse and cattle customers.

Practices

The farm is dedicated to providing safe, local food while being mindful of the ecology and the environment. They cultivate 20 acres of vegetables and herbs, ensuring the produce is fresh and deliciously ripe. The surrounding 350 acres are maintained as hayfields, contributing to the farm's holistic approach to land management.

The Rest

The farm store, located in Newbury's historic Common Pasture, offers a wide variety of locally sourced goods including pork, beef, lettuces, potatoes, tomatoes, onions, beets, greens, squashes, eggplant, cucumbers, corn, peppers, beans, carrots, and berries. It is conveniently situated just outside of Newburyport, directly off of Interstate 95 and Route 1.
